After an early breakfast at the riad, we depart Marrakech and begin the scenic three-hour drive into the High Atlas Mountains to the village of Imlil, the starting point of our trek.
On arrival, we'll set out on an acclimatisation hike to a nearby mountain pass at approximately 2,500m, offering fantastic views of the surrounding valleys and peaks. This gentle introduction to trekking at altitude helps prepare us for the days ahead.
After the hike, we descend to the village of Armed, where we'll spend the night in a traditional mountain riad.
All transport and meals are included, with accommodation provided on a twin-share basis.
Following a traditional Berber breakfast, we pack our gear and begin the trek towards the Toubkal Refuge. Our route follows the valley through spectacular mountain scenery, with a stop for lunch in the village of Chamharouch, an important pilgrimage site nestled high in the Atlas Mountains.
After lunch, we continue our gradual ascent to the refuge, located at the foot of Jbel Toubkal. We typically arrive in the late afternoon, leaving time to relax, rehydrate.
In the evening, we'll enjoy a hearty Moroccan meal before settling in for an early night.
Accommodation is in shared dormitory-style rooms, with all meals included.
Today is dedicated to preparing for the summit of Jbel Toubkal. After breakfast, we'll head out for a day of winter mountain skills training, covering essential techniques such as crampon use, ice axe handling, and self-arrest skills. These sessions are designed to build confidence and ensure everyone is comfortable moving safely in alpine terrain.
We'll also make an acclimatisation ascent, typically reaching around 3,900m, helping your body adapt to the altitude ahead of summit day. If conditions, weather, and the group's progress allow, there may be an opportunity to climb Ras Ouanoukrim (4,083m), the third-highest peak in North Africa, providing an excellent additional challenge and acclimatisation benefit.
Returning to the Toubkal Refuge in the afternoon, we'll enjoy a late lunch and spend the remainder of the day resting, rehydrating, and preparing both physically and mentally for the summit attempt.
All meals are included, with accommodation in shared dormitory-style rooms.
Today is summit day. After an early breakfast, we'll leave the refuge before sunrise and begin our ascent of Jbel Toubkal (4,167m), the highest peak in North Africa.
While the summit day is not particularly long in distance, the altitude and winter conditions add a significant challenge, making the achievement all the more rewarding. As dawn breaks over the Atlas Mountains, you'll be treated to spectacular views before reaching the summit and taking in the vast panorama stretching across Morocco.
Winter temperatures on the summit can vary dramatically, ranging from around 5°C to as low as -20°C with wind chill, so appropriate warm clothing and layering are essential.
After celebrating on the summit, we'll descend back to the Toubkal Refuge, where a well-earned evening meal awaits. The evening is a chance to relax, share stories from the day's adventure, and celebrate your achievement with the rest of the team.
All meals are included, with accommodation in shared dormitory-style rooms.
